So I realized that I hadn't written about the rest of it--just last Saturday. I had Monday (Memorial Day off) and Hans had to work in the morning so I decided to bake. I am trying to get more proficient at baking bread. This time worked out better than the last. It's a wheat and white flour bread from Sarah who got it from Joy. In any case, it is pretty good bread. I am up for any other recipes for wheat or whatever kind of bread you might make out there. Any help is greatly appreciated. After working and taking a nap, Hans went diving with a friend and brought back sea urchins and bottles and a few rock fish that they speared. We are making cool lamps out of the sea urchins. Well I should say we are attempting... has not yet been done but we have someone up here that knows how to make them and is helping us a bit.
The rest of the week went pretty uneventful... Hans was able to help with Cub Scouts and did a good job teaching the boys their knots to pass off. I had them make bug neckerchief slides and coil and throw a rope to a target.... next week we have a field trip to a hatchery/bird refuge here in town so that should be a lot of fun. I hope to get some pictures from that to blog.
On Thursday Hans was off so we took the girls and went downtown to play "tourists" for the afternoon. We hadn't done that yet this season and it turns out to be fun. It's a totally different experience with the girls and the stroller and all but we had fun. There is a new store here called Christmas in Alaska and that was fun to go through. They have lots of fun decorations and water globes and they even have Santa giving out stickers. Maya was very proud of hers. The whole time we walked around people would point and comment on us (well mostly the girls) I guess you know when you are carting around cute girls when all the tourists and shop people comment.
We walked thru the busy streets--which is tough navigating with a stroller I might add and saw lots of sights. The town is busy with people, noises, ships, tours by bus, trolley and horse drawn buggy that has a husky just hanging out on the bench by the driver. It's a pretty interesting site.
Since we recently found out that Hans is going to be out of town in a place called Kake, AK the month of July we thought we would take a fun day out while we could. Luckily, I was already going to be gone to UT for a week during the month so it only leaves 3 more that I will be kicking around here by myself. It will be nice that Yolaunda and the kids will be up here by then so we can keep each other company.
Today is another beautiful day in AK and makes me glad we still are in this house that has the great water view. I will miss that when we move but the trade off for our own place will be better. I guess that pretty much covers it for now. I did add more pictures to our albums so check them out!
